Quadrans or Quadrantes are rarely seen in Britain. We have recently copied two examples of this small Roman bronze coin of which this was the first.
The obverse of this unusual coin does not show the emperor’s head as is normallly the case but instead shows a hand holding a balance. The legend reads “TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG”. Beneath the balance are the letters PNR.
The reverse reads “PON M TR P IMP COS DES IT” around S C.
