No 649 Roman Gold Solidus of Eudocia Image

As in the previous coins, a thicker flan and no photo.

Eudocia married Theodosius II in 421 AD. For a time she exercised considerable political influence but in 441 she retired to Jerusalem and devoted the rest of her life to the erection of churches and monasteries. She died in 460 AD.

This coin shows a draped and diademed bust of Eudosius facing right. Above her head is a hand holding a wreath.

The reverse reads VOT XX MVLT XXX I and shows Victory standing left holding a long cross.
