1858 Canada One Cent Piece. The first Canadian decimal coins were issued in 1858 i.e. 1,5,10 and 20 cents, in the name of the Province of Canada. These early coins were struck in England at London’s Royal Mint or at the Haton Mint in Birmingham. Issues struck at the Royal Mint, as our example was, do not bear a mintmark but those produced by Heaton carry an ‘H’.
Our copy is of a Large Cent dated 1858 of which 421,000 were made. It is in excellent condition and will appeal to collectors.
