This is an Aethelred II sceat issued under the Kings of Northumbria. We have copied a sceat of Aethelred I (157) and this coin compliments the series. It dates to towards the end of the eighth century when the design of the Aethelred’s sceats became standardised with the kings name on the obverse and the moneyers name on the reverse.
