This is a gold stater minted by the Ambiani circa 90-60 BC. It shows a stylised head facing right. The reverse shows a horse right with pellets about. It is VA 44 and a Class III stater.
There are around ten times as many Class III coins from Britain as from the continent and it seems to have been struck almost entirely for export. The find spots are nearly all south of the Thames, especially in Kent, and Class 3 seems to have become the effective coinage of the region up to the Gallic Wars, supplanting Gallo-Belgic A which continued to circulate in the more backward area north of the Thames.
