It has been a pleasure to reproduce this splendid little coin, a piece described as ‘unknown’ little over one year ago.
Brian Cross, co-owner of our company, was the first to find an example of this type, in late 1999. That coin was too fragile to copy.
This example, our No 490, is in VF condition and is a tiny marvel of numismatic engineering. It shows the side profile of the young King David II of Scotland facing left.
The reverse shows a long cross with a single star in each quarter and the legend ‘REX SCOTORUM’. It is this legend coupled with the obverse legend that makes this coin excessively rare.
