This jetton or counter dates to the 13th/14th centuries and is said to have been manufactured in France. Apparently this is an example of a type known as a ‘Mute’ in that they have no proper inscription and no mint-sign. Commonly they do have an heraldic sign and/or a coat of arms on one field and some isolated characters.
