This is a large silver coin dated 1815. It was struck during the Peninsula Campaign, when Napoleon’s brother, Joseph was in control. Despite the Bourbon king being imprisoned, these regal style coins continued to be issued alongside the Napoleonic ones. The ‘M’ on the reverse refers to the Palma de Mallorca mint, and the J:J is a coded reference to it’s .925 fineness.
